Honey Rae Aesthetics offers three neurotoxins: Jeuveau, Xeomin, and Dysport. We serve clients from Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, and Lehi, and many arrive having read that one brand is "stronger," "faster," or "longer-lasting." The real differences are more specific than that, and more useful to understand.
What do Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau have in common?
All three are botulinum toxin type A products, and all three are FDA-approved to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (the "11s" between the brows) in adults. They work the same basic way: each temporarily reduces the nerve signal that tells a targeted muscle to contract. That softens the lines caused by that movement. All three are temporary, and all three carry the same class of FDA boxed warning about rare spread of effect beyond the injection site.
How is Dysport different?
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) received FDA approval for glabellar lines in 2009. It is also approved for several medical uses, such as certain muscle-spasticity conditions. The practical difference for clients is its dosing scale. Dysport is measured in units that don't match other brands, so a Dysport plan uses a numerically larger number of units for a similar purpose. That doesn't mean you're getting "more."
You may read that Dysport spreads more widely in the tissue than other brands. That idea is debated. Spread depends heavily on dose, dilution, and injection technique, so it isn't a fixed trait of the brand.
How is Xeomin different?
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) received FDA approval for glabellar lines in 2011 and is also approved for several medical uses. It is manufactured to remove the accessory ("complexing") proteins that surround the active toxin in some other products. Researchers have asked whether that lowers the already rare chance of developing antibodies that reduce response. That question isn't settled for typical cosmetic doses, so we don't treat it as a guarantee. Unlike the others, unopened Xeomin can be stored at room temperature before preparation. That matters for handling, not for your result.
How is Jeuveau different?
Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) received FDA approval in 2019. Its only FDA-approved indication is cosmetic: glabellar lines. It is the newest of the three. Clinical trials supported its approval, but it has a shorter track record in practice than products in use since 2009 and 2011. For more on its timeline, see how long Jeuveau lasts.
Which neurotoxin lasts the longest?
No one of these three has been shown to reliably last longer than the others for everyone. For many people, results from any of them last roughly three to four months. Direct head-to-head research in aesthetic use is limited. Differences between individuals, and between doses and areas, usually matter more than the brand. If one product has worked well for you, your history is a better guide than any general ranking.
Which neurotoxin works the fastest?
Onset is usually within a few days for all three, and the full effect is generally judged at about two weeks. Some clients feel one product "kicks in" sooner. Small differences in onset have been reported, but they aren't consistent enough to promise. If you have an event, plan treatment at least two weeks ahead, whichever brand you choose.
Why can't you compare price per unit across brands?
You can't compare neurotoxin prices by the unit because the units don't measure the same thing from brand to brand. The FDA labeling for each product states that its units are not interchangeable with other botulinum toxin products. A per-unit price for Dysport and a per-unit price for Jeuveau or Xeomin can't be compared directly. Even within one brand, a unit price leaves out how many units your plan needs and whether a review visit is included.
The useful comparison is the quote for the same treatment areas and goal. For example: "frown lines and forehead, keeping some brow movement, with a two-week review." Ask what the quote includes and how adjustments are handled. Current pricing is on our pricing page, or you can ask during your consultation.
Should you switch brands if your results didn't last?
Switching brands sometimes helps, but it isn't an automatic fix. A result that faded quickly or felt too strong may have more to do with dose, placement, or the area than with the product. Before switching, tell your injector:
- which product you had, and roughly how much, if you know;
- when you first noticed movement returning;
- what you liked or disliked, such as heaviness in the brows or too much movement left.
That history lets your injector decide whether to change the product, the dose, or the placement, or whether to keep the plan and simply reassess timing.
How does an injector choose between them?
At Honey Rae, the choice follows your face and history, not a house favorite. We consider:
- The area and goal. All three are approved for glabellar lines. Other areas, like the forehead, crow's feet, or a lip flip, may be on- or off-label depending on the product. We'll tell you which applies.
- Your previous response. A product that has worked well for you is often the best place to start.
- Your preferences. Some clients have a brand they trust or want to try. Within safe, appropriate options, that counts.
- Medical history. Certain conditions, medicines, pregnancy, or breastfeeding can mean treatment should wait or isn't appropriate.
Whichever product is used, ask that it be recorded in your chart along with the amount and areas. That record makes every future visit more accurate.
What side effects should you know about?
The common side effects are similar across all three: headache, bruising or tenderness where the needle went in, and sometimes a heavy or drooping brow or eyelid. Drooping usually improves as the product wears off. The rare but serious risk shared by all botulinum toxins is spread of effect. This can cause trouble swallowing, speaking, or breathing, or general muscle weakness. Those symptoms need urgent medical care.
