Ask for the reasons behind each step

Discuss alternatives and the option of waiting. If something remains unclear, ask for an explanation before booking rather than treat the consultation as an obligation to proceed.
You should be able to explain the plan back
Before booking, summarize in your own words which concern each step addresses, the important limits, and the care needed afterward. Ask the provider to correct anything you misunderstood.
